Some tools to make everyday life easier

The following is a list of applications that I find super usefull in day to day work.

  • SlickRun - This little utility makes accessing applications super easy. It works by creating magic words which you can then use to quickly access your applications and web sites
  • PsPad - This is a freeware editor for windows. It handles syntax highlighting beautifully, it comes with a build in FTP client and tons more. I used to use EditPlus editor but I find PsPad more useful to me and the fact that it is free does not hurt.
  • xplorer2 - This is an amazing Windows Explorer replacement tool. It is perfect if you have to work with multiple folders open. I am using the free lite version.
  • Beyond Compare 2 - This program lets you compare file content between two sources. Very helpful when you are working on several servers and need to move files around. It also comes with a FTP support so comparing files on the web server never been easier.

OperaStumbler

Everybody knows that StumbleUpon is the greatest FireFox extension out there. Since I have discovered it in the early days of FireFox, it allowed me to find hundreds of sites that I would normally have never noticed.

The only problem I had was the fact that for casual browsing I actually prefer to use the Opera browser. Opera did not have StumbleUpon. This was always a big problem and prevented me from using Opera as much as I would like. Opera browser is faster. It does not eat up tons of memory (biggest down side to FireFox), and it goes without saying is about 1 billion times better than IE.

Well, I am happy to say that the StumbleUpon is finally available on Opera! (*Rejoices*) You can download easy to install tool bar from the good people at OperaStumbler

I'm looking forward to stumbling away on my favorite browser!

iTunes University

iTunes has added an interesting feature recently (or maybe it has been there for a long time and I just now discovered it), called iTunes U. It is basically a collection of lectures from various universities in audio or video format for everyone to enjoy.

This is a very neat idea, I hope that more and more universities will participate in this program. I find myself listening to some of the lectures now and then and overall I find them quite good.

Check out this new feature at an iTunes application near you!
